St. Blaise was a fourth-century bishop and physician who, according to tradition, miraculously cured a child choking on a fishbone. He is the patron of those suffering from ailments of the throat and lungs, and his intercession is invoked for healing of any sickness affecting breath or voice. The Church blesses throats in his name on his feast day, February 3.

Pray once daily for nine consecutive days. Traditionally prayed in the days leading up to the Feast of St. Blaise (February 3), but can be prayed at any time, especially when someone is suffering from a throat, lung, or respiratory illness. Many add the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be at the end of each day.
O glorious St. Blaise, who by your martyrdom left to the Church a precious witness to the faith, obtain for us the grace to preserve within ourselves this divine gift, and to defend — without human respect — both by word and example, the truth of that same faith. You miraculously restored a little child when it was at the point of death because of an affliction of the throat. Grant us your mighty patronage in like misfortunes, and especially intercede for (mention your intention). Above all, obtain for us the grace of trusting in God's providence, that whatever the outcome of this affliction, we may be drawn closer to His Sacred Heart. Amen. Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from every disease of the throat and from every other illness. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
